Shelter Scotland Housemate aims to prevent disputes between landlords and tenants over deposit repayments by creating a full digital record of a property’s contents and the condition of its decor.

As a tenant you can email your inventory to your landlord when you move in which will greatly increase your chance to get your full deposit back when you move out.

As a landlord you can do the same and have evidence to prove that you can rightly withhold some or all of the deposit should the property not be up to standard.

Files generated by the app are comprehensive and there should be few grounds for argument between tenants and landlords over repayment of deposits at the end of a tenancy.

A tenant (or landlord) simply adds a property to the app, recording information such as Rent and Deposit amounts and then add rooms and items to the property to create an inventory list.

You can include photos of items and add comments on their condition. This can then be exported to single document which can be emailed to the landlord or tenant and used as an agreed record of condition at the start of the tenancy.
